Labour legislation grew along with the Industrial Growth in India.
During 18th Century the was great manufacturing country. British India discourage the Indian Manufactures and encouraged the rising British Manufactures. This policy made indian manufactures as subservient to the British Manufactures. This led to the growth of Indian Nationalism, people started to use goods made in India and boycott foreign goods.
Plantation Industry in Assam was to enact a legislative control for the recruitment of workers in this industry. The factories act was passed in 1881 and the Mines act in 1901.
